The False Threats series is based on my personal frustration with my own fears, particularly a life-long bug phobia as well as contemporary threats from far away places. The current demonization of foreign cultures by Western media, juxtaposes the past victorian idea of specimen collecting from foreign lands, a practice that once celebrated exotic and far away cultures. I chose to focus on elements of the natural world from problematic areas which seem more threatening than they actually are, as a way of educating myself in an effort to become less afraid.
