Tool to Table: Clay and Tool-Making with Collective Matter

All ages welcome

12 & 13 May 11:00 — 17:00

Join the workshop anytime for 2½ hours

Using self-made tools from found materials and objects, this 2½ hour clay workshop teaches a wide breadth of surface decoration and construction techniques to create your own unique piece of tableware.

Join Collective Matter for a clay workshop and share your experiences of living, working, playing, eating or visiting London. Guests are invited to contribute personal items to Collective Matter’s collection of materials and objects from the city and studio to construct unique tools that can be used to create marks and impressions in clay.

These tools are then used to make items of tableware: a slab-built mug, a coil-moulded plate, a pinched egg cup. Over the weekend visitors together create a collaborative, London-centric dinner service.

To decorate your piece of crockery, visitors are shown a whole breadth of ceramic surface decoration techniques which can be used to tell your London story, from inlaying coloured slips into scratched patterns to carving your very own plaster stamp.
